Description:
During the first 2 years of the course students will be equipped with practical, skill based techniques and a conceptual awareness to the point where they should now be able to consider a more challenging syllabus. This level 3 module is designed to encompass the more complex issues of accounting theory and practice to the extent that those who subsequently wish to do so, should be able to enter the final stages of the professional examinations with confidence. There will, therefore, be a great emphasis on developing the students' ability to challenge accepted concepts and principles and deal with current practical and conceptual issues and controversies in an objective and critical manner.

An understanding of the ropic enables students to appreciate its effects on financial decision-making. It links with other business, financial, or professionally related subject areas. Taxation also affects the everyday life of most people both directly or indirectly.

The changes currently taking place in the international monetary environment of business, both in Europe and at the global level, are placing increasing emphasis upon the ability of companies to maximise the resultant opportunities and minimise the resultant threats by means of international financial management. This course aims to offer students an explanation of the key factors involved in these developments. This course is suitable for students who have previously studied financial management or corporate finance and wish to expand this knowledge on international dimension. In order to ensure the financial success of organisations it is essential for managers to be able to identify financially worthwhile business activities. Linked with this identification process is the decision concerned with the most appropriate source of finance in order to undertake the activity. One of the major selection criteria for the source of finance will be the actual 'cost' of the capital to the organsisation. Whilst identifying suitable business activities and sources of funds managers will also be seeking to minimise the risks involved. These risks will include such factors as changes in interest rates and changes in exchange rates. This module will, therefore, introduce students to the above difficulties and examine the techniques and theories for addressing any identified problems.

This module will introduce students to the core aspects of general insurance, with particular emphasis on the UK market, but recognising the place of multi-national insurance programmes and the place of the UK insurance market within the international financial community. This module is NOT designed for those specifically wanting careers in accounting and finance and is hence designed from a user perspective rather than a practitioner perspective. As this is a level 3 module, by necessity the learning outcomes must enable the student to be able to demonstrate an ability to reflect critically on a range of key (and often complex) concepts and techniques.
