This module considers the factors that have led to this growth and the ways in which both public and private sectors have responded to the growth in the leisure and sports sectors of the UK economy of the 1980s and 1990s. The module looks at the sport/leisure industry from both the perspectives of the suppliers of leisure/sport and the users. The role of sport/leisure in the economy is also investigated as well as the importance of sponsorship within sport.

The aim of this module is to provide the learner with the opportunity to examine and analyse the specific characteristics, skills and knowledge required to be a successful and effective employee in their particular business sector/type of organisation. To undertake the Aims, Objectives and Learning Contract Plan the learner will be required to focus on particular aspects of their work role and their personal and professional development. They will construct a set of SMART objectives relating to a set of identified Aims which will be negotiated with their tutor. They will develop the skill of reflection and use a structured Learning Contract to identify and demonstrate and evidence their specific knowledge and skills development in relation to one selected objective. The compilation of a Personal Development Log, developed throughout the work based learning experience, will require the learner to identify, analyse and reflect upon their individual personal and professional development. The process will build upon their skills and the reflective practice required in writing Learning Contracts focussed upon their previously estabilshed aims and objectives. The log will be supported by relevant evidence to support the claims within each Learning Contract.

Such students are normally on a recognised exchange programme with a TUON Partner Institution. The main aims of the period of international study are to help students develop a deeper understanding of another culture and to gain the experience of studying in an international environment, alongside other international students from a variety of countries and backgrounds. In addition, students will benefit from being immersed in a different culture and experience first hand what it is like to live independently outside of the UK.
